Jeep Wrangler's Evolution The Jeep Wrangler also known as the YJ, TJ, and KJ has a lengthy history which started in World War II. The version of the Wrangler used in WWII received a remodeling in 1987. This original YJ was made in Ontario, Canada until 1992 when production was moved to Jeeps Ohio plant in Toledo. The Wrangler also received renovations in 1997 and in 2007. The constant for Jeep is that it’s always been produced by Chrysler. The Jeep Wrangler is highly identifiable, and has maintained a cult like following since its inception. Jeep enthusiasts tend to refer to their favorite Jeeps using the YJ, TJ and KJ monikers to specify their preferred model. Manufactured from 1987 through 1995 the YJ came in two options; a two door truck and a two door convertible. The YJ had three engine options, two gas tank options, and four transmission options for buyers to choose. The manufacturing of the TJ began in 1997 and continued until 2007. The TJ had three different engines, three transmissions, and also had an option for automatic or manual. The TJ’s gas tank was 19 gallons which was a middle ground adjustment from the 15 or 20 gallon tank offered on the YJ. The newest model of the Wrangler built in 2007 and still available today is the KJ. The KJ comes in a 4 door option as well as the standard two door. The KJ has a larger gas tank and features a 3.6 liter V6. It comes in both manual and automatic transmission. The allure of the Wrangler won’t be fading anytime soon. Thanks to its versatility the Wrangler is just as likely to be hauling the family as it is to be off road.
