Ready To Brush Up On Your Dodge Dakota History The Dodge Dakota is a small truck, but it was designed to perform like a full-sized model. It was recognized as one of the most dependable and durable vehicles in its class. The Dodge Dakota was redesigned in 1997. The redesign involved the adoption of a Ram-like front end. The Dodge Dakota was offered with a Club Cab and regular model after special changes were made to the body. A 6.5-foot and 8-foot bed box became available with the regular cab version of the 1998 Dakota. In 1998, the overall performance of this exceptional medium-sized pickup truck was increased with the help of an R/T version of the Dakota. This version has a 250-horsepower 5.9-liter Magnum V-8 power plant. A powerful 5.2-liter Magnum V-8 engine is also available for the 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Before the Chevrolet Colorado SS hit the scene in 2009, the Dakota was the only mid-sized pickup truck with a V-8 engine in the United States. The 3.9-liter V-6 engine and the 2.5-liter four-cylinder became available for the 1998 Dakota. Rear-wheel drive and a part-time four-wheel drive system gave the truck more power. A four-door Quad Cab version of the Dodge Dakota was featured in the 2000 model year. The 4.7-liter displacement PowerTech V-8 replaced the 5.2-liter. The Dakota received a big upgrade with a new suspension system in 2005. Production for The Dakota regular cab version of the Dakota was discontinued on the newer model. This left the Quad Cab and Club Cab. The 3.7-liter V-6 and the 4.7-liter V-8 powerplant were the engine choices for the 2005 Dodge Dakota. The truck division of Dodge became the Ram brand in 2010. The Dakotas production ceased after the 2011 model due to decreased customer popularity.
