The Dodge Dakota has a great reputation for being a durable utility pickup for drivers looking for a smaller alternative to full-sized trucks. This exceptional small pickup is smaller than the Dodge Ram, but it was one of the most dependable vehicles in its category. The Dodge Dakota came with a Club Cab and regular model after undergoing a complete redesign.            A 6.5-foot and 8-foot bed box became available with the standard cab version of the 1998 version. The overall performance ante of the medium-sized pickup truck was increased significantly by the Dakota's R\/T version. It had a powerful 250-horsepower Magnum V-8 power plant.            A 5.2-liter Magnum V-8 engine was also available for the 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup. Prior to 2009, the Dakota was the only mid-sized pickup truck in the U.S. with a V-8 engine. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 3.9-liter V-6 engine were the other power plants for the 1998 Dakota.            For the 2000 model year, an attractive four-door Quad Cab version of the Dodge Dakota emerged onto the scene. Also in 2000, a new 4.7-liter displacement PowerTech V-8 was put into the truck. The Dakota was given a dynamic suspension system in 2005. Production for the regular cab version ceased. This gave the Quad Cab and the Club Cab more exposure.            The engine choices for the 2005 Dodge Dakota were the V-6 and V-8 power plant. Both engines provide tremendous horsepower and torque. The truck division of Dodge was funneled into the Ram brand.
